Why your AI-generated site looks generic (and how to fix it)

You can usually spot an un-directed AI build in a second. Here's the checklist, and the fix.

The five tells

  • A blue-ish primary that no one chose.
  • Even, unconsidered spacing — everything 16 or 24, nothing intentional.
  • One weight of one font doing all the work.
  • Card-on-grey layouts with no point of view.
  • Rounded-everything with a soft shadow, aka the default component kit.

The one fix

Feed the model a real design system before it writes a line. Extracted tokens replace every default above with a decision — a chosen accent, a real type scale, a spacing rhythm, component rules. Same builder, completely different result.
